How Can You Get (More) Followers To Your Blog?

The most simplest and basic answer is for you to provide good content on your blog.

The reason why people follow a blog is because they find the information on that blog useful and helpful. The blog may also provide interesting and one-of-a-king information that a visitor may find worth reading and they will want to visit the blog over and over again just to see what new content the blog has.

If you want to make your blog more popular then the best way to do that is to find some type of niche - a subject that you are well-acquainted with - so that you will know of what you blog!

If you think that what you know about wouldn't be a popular topic then you may be surprised to know that lots of blogs are popular with the most bizarre of topics - but it is best to stick with what you know!

You can invite everyone to follow your blog but if they don't find the information interesting then they won't feel obliged to come back!

If you don't know why you're not getting followers to your blog then you should think about hiring a blog consultant to look at your blog so that they can help you find out how to make your blog more popular. A blog consultant can help you get more traffic and find sites that can help you gain more traffic to your blog.

If you don't want to hire a blog consultant, you can ask people to look at and assess your blog - those who won't charge you - to see where you can make improvements and help show you how to get more traffic to your blog.

Please remember though that this will take some time. Your blog needs to build up a reputation and that will take some time. But don't worry though because if other blogs (on various subjects) can get lots of traffic - your blog can too!

"How Do I Get My Blog Listed On The Search Engines?"

This may be more easier said than done!

Probably the best tactic for getting your blog to show up in the popular search engines is for you to first decide what keywords you want your blog to be associated with. Then you should do a search yourself using those keywords and see where your blog ranks. If you don't like where your blog is ranking - or more worse your blog is not showing up in the rankings at all - then you are going to have to work more harder at incorporating those keywords into the content of your site.

Optimizing one's site (or blog) for the search engines is called search engine optimization - SEO for short - and it has come a long way in the last few years. As you can well imagine, almost everyone wants a highly ranked search engine site listing! So that just means that the competition is high competitive!

But basically what it all comes down to is hard work!

As a SEO Consultant, I use my own The Adsense Consultant Blog as an example.

Currently my The Adsense Consultant Blog is on page 1 of Google's search engine results for the term "adsense consultant, however the actual number rank goes up and down.

"I Am New To Blogging"......

I'm starting to see a lot of posts from those that are new to blogging and the majority of the posts have to do with asking about how one's blog can be noticed more.

Here is a link to a message forum thread where you can announce your new blog to the world!

It also helps if you can optimize your blog for the search engines (
you can read more about this topic by going to my The SEO Consultant Blog
).

However I think the most important advice that I can give about getting your blog more well known and about how to get more people / traffic to come to your blog is for you to let your blog build up a reputation. Give your blog some time to get noticed! I have seen posts from people who have created their blog and published it on the Internet and expected it to show up in the search engines as soon as their blog was published? Usually it doesn't happen right away! Notice I said usually because there have been examples of sites showing up in the search engines in as little as 24 hours! A good example is my own The Adsense Consultant Blog because there have been quite a few of my blog posts that have showed up in the search engines in as little as 24 hours but I attribute that to the fact that there was quite a bit of interest in the subject matter of my blog posts which mainly had to do with people trying to find out when they were getting their Adsense payments!

I say that to say this:

The majority of people who have had their blog posts (or a link to their blog) show up in the search engines in as little as 24 hours usually have achieved this because the subject matter of their blog is very popular and people are using the search engines looking for information that is related to the information that they have on their blog (or website).

I'm New To Blogging. How Can People See My Blog?

Once you have started your blog and you have published your first post then - technically - it is on the Internet for the world to see!

However you do have to let people know about your blog though. It is quite possible that your blog could start to get traffic even without you promoting it but the more people that know about your blog the better!

For one thing if your blog is on Blogger.com then the more posts that you add the more likely that you will get traffic from those that push the link to the next blog button that appears at the top of your blog. That's one way to get traffic.

Another thing that you should do is optimize your blog for the search engines. In other words when people use the search engines to find sites / blogs similar to the information that they are looking for - then you will want your blog to show up in the list of search engine results. For instance, my The Adsense Consultant Blog is currently on the first page of search engine results when the term adsense consultant is typed into the Google's search engine. And basically that is the same result that you will want for your blog when people are looking for information similar to the kind of information that you have on your blog.

This is called search engine optimization and getting one's site to rank high in the search engine results is something that is going to take some work. People that are new to blogging have to understand that just because they have a blog (or website) on the Internet that it will not automatically get listed in the search engines! You have to do the work so that it shows up in the search engines and unfortunately getting a highly ranked site is what a lot of people are after and that is why getting a high ranking is so competitive! In fact it is so highly competitive that even those that have sites not related to the search terms have managed to get a high ranking even if it is by inscrutable means! Which just makes it tougher for those that have legitimate sites with legitimate and related information!

It may not seem fair but if you want to rank high in the search engines then you are going to have to see the competition that you are up against and start working on out-optimizing them!

"How Do I Share My Blog?"

Google Groups has a newsgroup called "Share Your Blog". Here you can tell the world about your blog! Once you get there and post a message announcing your blog don't forget to put your blog's address on the thread (since the name of the thread is "Share Your Blog"

All you have to do to add a link to your blog is to just type in the url address of your blog and it should show as a blue, clickable link - like so:

http://theseoconsultant.blogspot.com

Another thing that you should do when you join google groups (it's free!) is to add some information about yourself to your google groups profile. One person posted about their blog but didn't include a link to their blog so I looked up their google groups profile but there was nothing on it.

My profile has a picture upload (my cat) a link to one of my blogs and
also a list of the posts that I have replied to. (Unfortunately I can't post a picture of my profile here because it is against the adsense terms of service agreement - since adsense is a part of google now)

Some people may think that having any profile information is a waste
of time but I know from looking at my own "stats" that some people really
do look at your profile. So it can only help if you have some
information and a link to your blog posted on your profile.

Here is a link to my own google groups profile - hopefully......(I tested the link below myself and it did lead to my google groups profile page

Increasing The Traffic To Your Blog...............

I just posted to my Adsense Consultant blog about how I'm working on increasing the traffic to one of my client's blogs.

I thought that I would provide a link to that post because regardless of whether or not you have adsense on your blog, one of the things that you will want to work on is increasing the traffic to your blog. In the case of adsense, the more traffic your blog gets the more potential clicks your adsense ads will get.

However if you don't have adsense on your blog then it is still important to increase the traffic to your blog. It doesn't even have to be for financial reasons. Let's say that your blog touches on a very topical subject - so the more people that know about your blog - the better!

"How Do I Get Traffic To My Blog?"

Again this question is asked and again here is the answer:

The best way to get traffic to your blog is to decide who your target market is - that is who would benefit the most from information that is on your blog - the answer to that would be your target audience.

You should also include a stats counter on your site so that you know where the traffic that you are getting is coming from. There are quite a few free ones available online.

You also get traffic to your blog via the search engines. That is when people enter search terms the search engine will return a list of relevent sites. What YOU want is for your site to be included in that list and you do that by deciding which keywords / search terms that you want assoiciated with your site and work on adding those terms to the content of your site.

"How Can I Bring Attention To My Blog?"

Here is a recent comment that I received:

I have a non-profit blog and would like to know exactly how to get the attention of people......can you review it and let me know what you think please?

Thank You

First of all I made a blog entry answering the question How Can I Attract More Traffic To My Blog

Secondly I do not do blog reviews for free. This is a service that I charge for and if you would like me to review your blog then you can click on the PayPal button at the side to pay for my services. There are starting packages that start as low as $100 for a blog review and you will get a one page detailed analysis of my review of your blog. I will also review your blog here on this blog as well and provide a link to your blog also (as you can see that I have already done with some of my previous clients) You can also take a look at my client blogroll to see a listing of some of my clients.

I do not do blog reviews for free simply because it is usually the person that is asking for the blog review who wants detailed critique of their blog and that is just something that I will not do for free!

If you will also notice the above question asks to know "exactly how to get the attention of people"

Now there are some basic things that can apply to blogs in general as far as getting more traffic / attention for your blog is concerned. One of those "things" is to let everybody you know - tell them about your blog! Once you get past telling the people that you do know about your blog then its time to work on getting other traffic to your blog.

Since this is a professional blog for an organization I wonder if it occured to them to include their blog address on all of there business literature?

Make sure that your blog has a counter on it so that you can track your number of visitors. There are some free counters available on the internet and they mostly involve copying and pasting some code to put on your blog.

You should also include a "stats" counter so that you can do more than just track the number of visitors to your blog. Use a stats counter that will let you see WHERE your traffic is coming from. Once you see where your traffic is coming from you can start to work more on increasing that traffic.

You should also work on optimizing your blog (or website) for the search engines. This is called Search Engine Optimization - or SEO - for short - and it simply means that you want a link to your blog or website to show up high in the search engine results when people are using the search engines to look for specific information. For instance this blog shows up on page one of Google's search engine results when someone types in the term "the blog consultant" and since I am a blog consultant that is EXACTLY where I want a link to my blog to be! I would say that roughly 50% of the traffic that comes to my blog is from people who went to the search engines, typed in some term relating to the content of this blog and a link to this blog showed up in the search engine results.

You can follow my progress as I work (and I should emphasize that this is work!) to keep my and my clients' sites on page one of the search engines by going to my SEO Consultant Blog.

So like I have said before:

Blogs - What Turns People Off?

Here is a list of things that turn people off as far as blogs are concerned:

  • A blog that takes too long to load - so if you have a lot of pictures or other features that "weigh" your blog down - you may want to reconsider.

  • "ugly" looking or otherwise a less attractive color scheme

  • sites that have "more ads than content"

  • "pop up" ads

  • content is not interesting enough - Although I should mention here that you can't please all the people all the time and that you should have your blog for YOU and not someone else. You are not going to get everyone interested in your blog.

  • blogs with music that automatically plays (and sometimes the volume of the music is too loud) - give your visitors the option of being able to choose whether or not they want to hear the music by providing a "play" button instead of automatically letting the music play when the site loads

  • text/font is too big or small or too difficult to read

  • bad grammer and/or too many mis-spelled words

  • a clashing background making the site too hard to read

  • blogs that aren't updated regularly

"How Can I Attract More Traffic To My Blog?"

Well the first thing that you should do is tell everybody you know about your blog.

The next thing that you should do is to add a counter and a tracking system to your blog. There are some of these that are available online for free and they usually just involve you copying and pasting some code into your blog.

The counter will let you know the number of visitors that have come to your blog. That way you can keep track of your blog's traffic progress.

A stats counter will not only let you know how many people are visiting your blog but some of them can also tell you where your vistors are coming from. That way you will know what website led them to your blog.

The next thing to do is to decide who would be most interested in your blog - that would be your target audience. For instance this blog is called "The Blog Consultant" and since it is a blog about blog consulting then that means that my target audience are those that are new to blogging, those that want to find out more about blogging and those that need help with their blogs. Those are just a few of my "target" audiences.

You should also realize that a good deal of traffic comes from the search engines. When people are looking for certain types of information they will type some search terms into a search engine and that search engine will bring back a list of sites that are relevent to the search terms that were typed in. You want your blog (or website) to be in that list and you want it as high up on that list as possible. Again using this blog as an example a link to this blog appears on page one of google's search engine results when the term "the blog consultant" is typed into the search box. Since I am a blog consultant then I definitely want a link to my blog to appear on page one of Google's search engine results when someone is looking for a blog consultant.

Basically speaking you have to apply this same kind of principle to your blog.

You can keep track of my efforts to keep my sites (and my clients' sites) on page 1 of the search engines by visiting my The SEO Consultant Blog

Clients - The Computer Brother - Step 2 - Increasing His Traffic

I just posted an entry on my Adsense Consultant Blog about one of my clients - The Computer Brother. Here is a link to that post:

Increasing A Client's Blog Traffic

It doesn't matter whether or not you have adsense added to your blog because almost everyone would like their blog to have more traffic and more visitors to their blog. Sometimes people try too hard to accomplish this and they start to get frustrated.

I'm going to be working closely with this client since the next step is to increase the traffic to his blog. I have started to monitor his traffic numbers just to see where his traffic numbers were as opposed to what they are now. I have sent him an email giving him one thing that he can do to start increasing his traffic and I'm going to just how well this "one thing" works by monitoring his traffic.
